Now, you could try to make something up, or you could just talk from the heart.

Unfortunately, what a lot of people do is turn to cheesy pick up lines that really don’t work. This causes troubles. And humor. But mostly troubles.

Speaking of cheesy pick up lines, we included 7 that really made us roll our eyes and laugh. Would you use these? Only if you wanted us to laugh at you. Go on, we could use something else to ridicule.

1. I’m Easy, How Are You?

We understand that this pickup line is supposed to be delivered in a cute way to make the other person laugh, but it ends up making you look absolutely foolish. This means that you really don’t want to use it.

Why? Well, in a nutshell, it makes it look like you’re available for a good time, and we don’t mean drinking hot chocolate and playing Monopoly. If you’re not ready for all of that, then you’re throwing mixed messages that’ll cause you to lose your target anyway.

2. Do You Have GPS On Your Phone?…

“…Because I keep getting lost in your eyes!”

It’s the natural punch line to a pick up line that just isn’t funny. It’s way too overplayed. There are too many that have heard it, and when you use pick up lines you look like you’re really trying too hard.

3. Hello I’m a Thief! …

“And I’ve come to steal your heart!”

My, what woman would be moved by this pickup line? We’re still not really sure.

4. I Think You Got Something In Your Eye…

“Oh wait, it’s just a sparkle.”

If we had a nickel for every time we heard a man say that, we would definitely be able to retire. It wouldn’t be as much fun as sending you crazy lists, but hey…we could retire. Just sayin’.

5. Do You Like Bananas or Blueberries

“…I just want to know so I know what type of pancakes to make you in the morning.”

This line assumes too much, which is why it fails so miserably. You look like a clown when you go out on a climb like this, because how do you really know that you’re going to get that person to meet back at your place, let alone stay the night?

6. If I Could Rearrange The Alphabet…

“…I would put U and I together.”

You don’t need to be a rocket scientist to understand what this one means. It’s about the most obvious pick up line. Maybe that’s why it fails so miserably. People want to make sure that you’re really thinking about them and being sincere, not just pulling out cheesy lines to throw around.

7. That’s a Nice Shirt….

“Can I talk you out of it?”

Unless you want to get slapped, you probably shouldn’t go with this. Even if you run into someone that is interesting in the same thing you are — you know what that “thing” is, we’re grownups here — you still need to approach them from a place of respect.

We know, we know — it sounds pretty darn ironic to try to tread lightly if you want sex and you figure the other person wants sex, but what if you’re wrong? If you’re too blunt, you might scare off the person that would have otherwise slept with you otherwise.

Harry Potter

Of course this is a really obvious choice, but he is an interesting and complex character. What is good about Harry is that although he is fundamentally good, he does undergo a certain amount of mental torment and hatred based on his upbringing and parents death and so his behaviour is not always predictable. You always know he will come good in the end, but you would expect that form a children’s book anyway.

Ron Weasley

What Ron brings to the book is us. He represents the reader in many ways. He gets scared in situations where we would get scared, says silly things in the way that we would and is from one of the more normal families in the book. It is good to have a character that the reader can relate to, one who is not clever or brave, but still manages to get a grip and win out in the end. It boosts the readers confidence in their own ability, knowing that a character who is seemingly no good, can still survive difficult challenges.

Hermione Granger

In some ways, Hermione is a great female character in the book. She is strong and clever, but does get a certain amount of stick for being so. Seeing a good intelligent female character in a children’s book is fantastic and hopefully she will give many young girls the confidence they need to get on in life. It would have been nice to have seen her being a bit more girly, having more female friends and things like that but overall she is a good role model.

Draco Malfoy

Draco is a character which is extremely well developed. Always coming across very tough in front of his school friends he has a certain vulnerability especially when with his Dad. This means that we can almost feel a sense of sympathy for him, especially in the last few books when he is relied upon to do something very difficult and cannot manage to do it. I think that he is great example of a bully, as it can readers to understand why he is doing it. He is bullied by his father and therefore does the same thing to others and it should help children reading the book to understand more about bullying behaviour.

Severus Snape

Snape is a very mysterious character which is why he is so exciting. Harry is always sure that he is working against him but he is always proved otherwise. This lack of trust is very cleverly written because the reader is always led to see things from Harry’s point of view and so they believe he is untrustworthy too. The character is strong and loyal even doing things which do not seem right, just to protect his allies.

Having a good strong woman would be a great start to the dinner party. She has had to live in a man’s world for a long time and it would be interesting to find out how this woman managed the men around her and also managed to be a wife and mother. This is a job that a lot of women have to do these days, keep a job and manage the family and it would be really interesting to find out how someone, with the most important job in the county, managed to do it. It would also be interesting to find out how she managed on so little sleep and what she really though of the US president and the Queen!

Robin Williams

Having someone funny at a dinner Party is always a great thing. Someone who can tell intelligent jokes and also has a slapstick nature is fantastic. It is great to have all the guests laughing. With such a good career, he would also have great stories to tell about celebrities he had met and things like that. He is also of a good age with good life experience so is likely to have some great stories to tell.

Jon Bon Jovi

Having someone musical can always bring a different aspect to a dinner party. You may feel that you want some entertainment. However, just having a voice is not always enough. It can be great to have someone who has had a lot of experience of the music industry and also has some good tales to tell and having toured a lot, he is sure to be able to do this. Having someone a bit older is good too, not some of these young new stars who have little experience and not really very much musical talent if we are all honest.

Lindsay Lohan

It is always good to have someone a little bit naughty present. As long as she is not in rehab or jail of course! She must have some great tales to tell about her life experiences so far and it would be great to try to find out the truth about her jail sentences and crimes. She is bound to be a good laugh if nothing else and someone for the men to enjoy looking at!

Brad Pitt

It would be good to have a straight actor to balance things out. It would be a bonus having a good looking one and imagine all the gossip you could get out of him after a few drinks! It would be great to hear all about his relationships and all the gossip about the women in his life, past and present!

Mickey Mouse

Mickey Mouse was Disney’s first real big hit and he is still amusing children today. For a character, whether cartoon or not, to be able to do this is quite a feat. Mickey has changed his look over the years but always has had a black body and is well known for his red shorts. He has a girlfriend Minnie Mouse and is often seen alongside his friends Donald and Daisy Duck. Mickey has a characteristic squeaky voice and is a friendly and happy character.

Bart Simpson

Bart Simpson is the son in the Simpson family. His character is loved by boys who like the fact that he is naughty and so very cool. He started by having a slingshot in his pocket and often falls out with his father because he gets him in to trouble. He is hated by his well behaved older sister, Lisa especially when his pranks end up making him popular and cool and he doesn’t get into trouble. Like all of the Simpsons, he never seems to get any older and it is likely that he never will.

Spongebob Squarepants

Spongebob is a character that lives under the sea. He has a few friends who seem to be even more stupid than he is. He has a pet snail. He is always optimistic and cannot see the danger or negative implications of many situations which can really annoy the other characters. He works in the burger bar and has all sorts of fun underwater adventures. He is appealing because he is funny and also has interesting adventures. There is therefore a mixture of fun and excitement in his stories.

Kim Possible

Kim Possible is a school girl who leads a double life, being a crime fighter as well. Every episode sees her working hard to save the world, with her friend, later boyfriend Ron Stoppable. It is great to see a string female character in a cartoon with a stupid sidekick. She normally has to fight against Doctor Drakken but often his much stronger and more capable sidekick Shego. The stories often feature school based problems as well as secret-agent and action type story lines, sometimes intermingled. This makes it something which children can relate to but also a lot of fun.

Ben 10

Ben Tennyson is an interesting character who at ten years old found an Omnimatrix which was an alien device. It allowed him to transform his shape in to ten different alien ones and therefore he was forced to save the earth with the help of his sister and Grandfather. After this original series there was Ben 10 : Alien Force and then Ben 10: Ultimate Alien. The first is set five years after the original show and is more scary than the first. It is good that the show evolved with its audience as they grew older, it changed to become more appropriate for its older audience but it will not be able to always do this as most children grow out of cartoons.

Despite all the talk about the inaccuracies of this website, it is certainly a very useful one. Countless children must use it to do their homework and many other people to look up information. The amount of information that it contains, does sometimes make you wonder how we managed without it. It is great to be able to easily look up anything you need to know and be fairly confident that the information on there is correct. Another great thing is that the site is continuously growing and so the information should get better, and more detailed over time.

Being able to watch fun videos is something which has quickly come along since broadband speeds got faster. The ability to be able to publish your own videos so that your family and friends can easily see them and to be able to watch other peoples is great fun. There are a great selection of different things on their too, the only problem is the limited file size but this is bound to change in the future.

Social networking is something that many of us cannot seem to do without these days, Sharing family photos and videos and finding out what you old friends and acquaintances are up to can be great fun. Telling people that you are now feeding your cat or brushing your teeth, may not be for everyone, but it is certainly a great communication aid and it also seems to have a cathartic purpose, in that being able to tell the world that you have a problem, seems to help many people even if they do not get a satisfactory solution.

Never was our old junk so valuable! Ebay has done a lot for people in that they now have the ability to easily sell their old things and make money. It has also allowed people to buy things more easily. There are a few problems in that it has brought down the value of collectables because more people are aware of the value of things and now they have an easy way to sell them, they are more likely to do so. However, it is certainly very useful in these tough financial times as we can make money form our old junk…erm valuables!

Buying books never was so cheap and easy. Amazon has expended now from just selling books to selling all sorts of things. There is also the ability to sell second hand as well as new items and anyone can now be a seller. It was certainly a clever business plan and it has solved many people Christmas shopping worries as it can all be done from the comfort of home. It is so successful that it could be partly responsible for the growth in on line shopping and certainly provides a very useful service. There are not many people who have not heard of them.

Lego

Lego is the ultimate construction toy. Although it can be expensive, there is no imitating it as it is truly the best. There are great things with Lego, you can buy general bricks to construct your own things, which is great for the imagination but also buy sets of things to make such as buildings and vehicles. It is suitable across a wide age range but does tend to be more biased towards boys than girls. The sets comes in a variety of sizes, meaning that there is something which will suit all budgets.

Play Mobil

Play Mobil are plastic toys which tend to need to be put together before playing with. This is all part of the fun but they tend not to be able to be taken apart again. The toys tend to move which is good and they can be vehicles, people, animals etc. Each set will come with a person and they vary in size from just a person and animal to a huge pirate ship. The themes of the toys tend to be for girls and boys and so they are great for everyone especially as the smaller packs are cheap.

Barbie / Action Man

No top 5 list of toys could be complete with Barbie and Action man. They have been grouped together as one is obviously for girls and the other for boys. The attraction with these dolls seems to be that they can change in to many different outfits as well as the fact that they harness the imagination. With accessories such as furniture and houses for Barbie and vehicles for Action Man, you can play out all sorts of scenarios with them.  

Teddy Bear

The good old teddy bear seems to be ageless. Every child has a soft toy that they like, whether it is a teddy bear in shape or some other sort of animal or thing. They are great for cuddling as well as imaginative play. The well made and designer bears, such as Steif still can be extremely expensive whether you are buying new or antiques, however, there are plenty of cheap and well made ones which are great for children to drag about the house, shower with love and get as dirty as they like.

Monopoly

All this list seems to be lacking is a board game. Monopoly is a classic in that it is great family fun and also educational. It is a great way to get all the family together and there is a chance that the children can beat the grown ups because as well as skill, there is a certain amount of luck in the game. It is very difficult to believe that this is true. The fifty year old actor, always comes of across as a true English gentleman. Having been nominated for many acting awards for various roles in his career it is surprising that it is only ‘The King’s Speech’ that has brought him massive acclaim, although he won some awards for his portrayal of George Falconer in ‘A Single Man’. ‘The Kings Speech’ has already brought him  many awards including a Golden Globe for best actor in a Motion Picture Drama as well as a nomination for an Academy Award for best actor which has not yet been chosen. It could be argued that he has reached a great point in his career where he now has international acclaim for a role and should therefore attract many more interesting parts in the future.

Red Nose Day was launched in 1985 by Richard Curtis and Alexander Mendis and is hosted on the BBC every two years. There are usually a selection of well known faces hosting the event during the evening. Often comedy stars with well known presenters. The 2011 show will consist of many things including special episodes of Eastenders and Miranda, a performance by Boyzone and a series of ‘Lets Dance for Comic Relief’ where celebrities are asked to perform a dance and get vote sby telephone (from which the money raised go towards the charity). There will be a single released to raise funds and Walkers crisps have released new flavours to help raise money.

Anyone wanting to support the Comic Relief cause can buy one of three ‘monster’ red noses from Sainbury’s or Oxfam or choose from a selection of other merchandise. The charity was so successful that it launched another biannual event, ‘Sport Relief’ which runs alternate years to the Red Nose Day Events. Red Nose Day tries to raise money from comedy whereas Sport Relief raises money for the same charities but by encouraging people to do sporting events.

However, as she was recently seen with Kris Smith, then it is probably for their baby boy ‘Ethan’. Ethan Edward Smith was born on 5th July 2010, giving Dannii just enough time to get back in to shape before appearing as a judge on the UK’s X-Factor. She got back in to the role very well as one of her contestants, Matt Cardle, ended up winning the show. She was very proud, but not as much as she was of her lovely son.

Dannii has managed to get back to her slim look very quickly after having her baby. However, she was not always that skinny. In the days when she was acting in the soap ‘Home and Away’ she was often told she was fat. Of course, she was nothing of the sort, maybe a bit more round in the face and curvier but she always had a lovely flat stomach when she wore bikinis on the set. She has spoken out about her weight, explaining that she had a school friend with anorexia, who almost died in hospital and she always vowed that she did not want that to happen to her. She also admits that she was always happy with how she looked, even when the press were saying that she was too big, What a fantastic attitude to have and from the outfits that she has chosen over the years, which show her body off perfectly, it was obvious they she never felt the need to cover up. It is obvious that she works out a lot more these days, but she has always looked good and been able to carry off almost every type of outfit. She seems to share her sister’s eye for style and with the support that they always give each other, it is no wonder that she has so much body confidence. To have a sister who was often considered to be more successful, must have been difficult for her and the temptation to slim down could have been there for others in that situation.

It is great that we can have someone to look up to who is so beautiful, curvy and slim but not afraid to speak out about her body and the fact that she has had a baby and still looks fabulous can give us all hope! However, many of us are probably a bit jealous of how quickly she did get back in to shape when it can take years (or maybe forever) to shift that baby weight!
