If you could invite anyone to a dinner party who would it be? It is a classic dilemma and normally we do not get to choose anyone to come. But imagine if you could choose anyone, who would you ask? What sort of conversation would they have with you and what sorts of interesting things could you find out about?

Having a good strong woman would be a great start to the dinner party. She has had to live in a man’s world for a long time and it would be interesting to find out how this woman managed the men around her and also managed to be a wife and mother. This is a job that a lot of women have to do these days, keep a job and manage the family and it would be really interesting to find out how someone, with the most important job in the county, managed to do it. It would also be interesting to find out how she managed on so little sleep and what she really though of the US president and the Queen!

There are huge amounts of cartoon characters, some of which have been around for  along time and others that are quite new. They vary a lot, both in the age that they appeal to and the sorts of things that they appear in. Here is a Top 5.

Mickey Mouse

Mickey Mouse was Disney’s first real big hit and he is still amusing children today. For a character, whether cartoon or not, to be able to do this is quite a feat. Mickey has changed his look over the years but always has had a black body and is well known for his red shorts. He has a girlfriend Minnie Mouse and is often seen alongside his friends Donald and Daisy Duck. Mickey has a characteristic squeaky voice and is a friendly and happy character.

Bart Simpson is the son in the Simpson family. His character is loved by boys who like the fact that he is naughty and so very cool. He started by having a slingshot in his pocket and often falls out with his father because he gets him in to trouble. Despite all the talk about the inaccuracies of this website, it is certainly a very useful one. Countless children must use it to do their homework and many other people to look up information. The amount of information that it contains, does sometimes make you wonder how we managed without it. It is great to be able to easily look up anything you need to know and be fairly confident that the information on there is correct. Another great thing is that the site is continuously growing and so the information should get better, and more detailed over time.

YouTube

Being able to watch fun videos is something which has quickly come along since broadband speeds got faster. The ability to be able to publish your own videos so that your family and friends can easily see them and to be able to watch other peoples is great fun. There are a great selection of different things on their too, the only problem is the limited file size but this is bound to change in the future.

Facebook

Social networking is something that many of us cannot seem to do without these days, Sharing family photos and videos and finding out what you old friends and acquaintances are up to can be great fun. Telling people that you are now feeding your cat or brushing your teeth, may not be for everyone, but it is certainly a great communication aid and it also seems to have a cathartic purpose, in that being able to tell the world that you have a problem, seems to help many people even if they do not get a satisfactory solution.

Never was our old junk so valuable! Ebay has done a lot for people in that they now have the ability to easily sell their old things and make money. It has also allowed people to buy things more easily. There are a few problems in that it has brought down the value of collectables because more people are aware of the value of things and now they have an easy way to sell them, they are more likely to do so. However, it is certainly very useful in these tough financial times as we can make money form our old junk…erm valuables!

Buying books never was so cheap and easy. Amazon has expended now from just selling books to selling all sorts of things. There is also the ability to sell second hand as well as new items and anyone can now be a seller. It was certainly a clever business plan and it has solved many people Christmas shopping worries as it can all be done from the comfort of home. It is so successful that it could be partly responsible for the growth in on line shopping and certainly provides a very useful service. There are not many people who have not heard of them.

As children we always had particular toys that were our favourites but most of us had a huge amount of toys that we really wanted but we were not allowed to have. Maybe we had played with them at a friends, maybe we saw them in a shop or advertised on the television. We then tend to buy things we always wanted for our children, some are great but others can be a big disappointment. The Top 5 list includes only toys which have been around for generations and have stood the test of time.

Lego

Lego is the ultimate construction toy. Although it can be expensive, there is no imitating it as it is truly the best. There are great things with Lego, you can buy general bricks to construct your own things, which is great for the imagination but also buy sets of things to make such as buildings and vehicles. It is suitable across a wide age range but does tend to be more biased towards boys than girls. The sets comes in a variety of sizes, meaning that there is something which will suit all budgets.

Play Mobil

Play Mobil are plastic toys which tend to need to be put together before playing with. This is all part of the fun but they tend not to be able to be taken apart again. The toys tend to move which is good and they can be vehicles, people, animals etc. Each set will come with a person and they vary in size from just a person and animal to a huge pirate ship. The themes of the toys tend to be for girls and boys and so they are great for everyone especially as the smaller packs are cheap.

Barbie / Action Man

No top 5 list of toys could be complete with Barbie and Action man. They have been grouped together as one is obviously for girls and the other for boys. The attraction with these dolls seems to be that they can change in to many different outfits as well as the fact that they harness the imagination.
